Summer Has Arrived...Are You Ready?

Basement flooding is quite common in many parts of Canada. Most municipalities are doing their best to re-engineer and retro-fit degrading infrastructures, but the complex system of underground pipes, sewers and catch-basins are, in many cases, decades old. Improvements alone cannot completely protect family homes from basement flooding. Unforeseen or accidental problems can occur in any type of city sewer system. Autumn rains, sudden winter and spring thaws often overload even the best kept city sewer systems and the backflow can be a flood disaster waiting to happen in residential areas.

The devastation and disruption that take place in people’s lives when sewers back up is heartbreaking even for a plumber who’s seen it all. The installation of a backwater check valve can help to prevent that from happening. It is absolutely crucial that the installation of this device be carried out by a professional, licensed plumbing company, otherwise manufacturer warranties may be voided. A backwater check valve isolates the plumbing, on the inside of the home, from the city’s sewer system to help reduce the risk of home flood from sewage backup.

In fact, in certain areas the question is not “if” but “when” a home will be the one hit with a flood. Many people don’t yet realize that some municipalities will actually provide homeowners a financial grant or subsidy of up to $3,200 per property, to help minimize the risk to their home and family from flood. However, the whole process of applying for building permits and filling out applications for grants and subsidy programs can be positively daunting for many people and they often give up before really starting the process, hoping and praying that their home will not be the next one to get hit with a flood.

Installation of the approved backwater check valve is important to public health and well-being of any family and the team at Mr. Rooter Plumbing make the installation as simple and affordable as possible for homeowners. Mr. Rooter Plumbing will obtain the permits needed from the city Building Division; assist homeowners with completion of the application for grant/subsidy programs and uses ONLY city approved flood prevention devices so that grant/subsidies are more easily obtained.

Our city approved backwater valve, installed in a home in a matter of hours, will help protect families from days of living with sewage in their basement; weeks and months of insurance claims and renovations; and potentially years of debilitating health issues resulting from the bacteria and mold that infect a home during a flood. It’s well worth the effort to install one.

Mr. Rooter Plumbing is a full service plumbing and drain company with prompt 24/7 emergency service and is an authorized Independent Service Provider for National Flood Prevention.
